Mark van Bommel is match fit again. The former PSV captain was given thirty minutes’ playing time during the cup tie against Zamora CF. Barcelona beat the Spanish Third Division side1-3. Van BronckhorstFC Barcelona will play the return leg against Zamora CF in Camp Nou in a week’s time. Minnows Zamora had a dream start. Xaco opened the scoring on five minutes and it took a while before the team coached by Frank Rijkaard and Henk ten Cate restored parity. Gio van Bronckhorst scored the leveler five minutes from the interval. Mark van Bommel was brought on some thirty minutes from final time. He made a welcome return, replacing Gabri. The midfielder sustained an ankle injury six weeks ago during a training session with the Dutch national squad. Rafael Marquez and Ludovic Giuly scored two goals for Barça in the closing stages, thus making sure of victory. Van Bommel must have been delighted with the comeback, in view of the World Cup 2006 in Germany next summer.
