PSV have become winners of the 'Eindhoven's Pride 2006 Award'. The news was announced on Friday night at a gala night in the Frits Philips Concert Hall. PSV Chairman Rob Westerhof received the trophy. One of the largest regional weeklies had organized the popularity poll. People were asked to bear in mind and answer the question: what are you, as an inhabitant of Eindhoven, proud of? PSV were given most votes this year. PSV had one of their best seasons ever last year. They clinched their eighteenth title, won the double by also winning the Dutch Cup and reached the UEFA Champions League semi finals, where they were cruelly eliminated by Italians giants AC Milan in the closing stages of the heroic clash. Mayor Mr Alexander Sakkers presented the ‘Peacock’ trophy to PSV Chairman Rob Westerhof during a gala night in the Concert Hall. The Chairman was also given a golden peacock pin and the name of PSV will be added to the pedestal of the giant peacock that is in the town hall. PSV were given the majority of the 12, 000 votes and there were a host of arguments constructed on solid grounds. ‘PSV have been performing at the highest level for many years’, they ‘have enhanced the reputation of Eindhoven’ and they are ‘inextricably bound up with the town of Eindhoven’. Hans van Breukelen, who was named Ambassador of the UEFA Cup final, scheduled for 10 May in the Eindhoven Philips Stadium, hosted the gala night.
