Ivory Coast have not succeeded in winning the Africa Cup. The match ended 0-0 after extra time and in the resulting penalty shoot out Egypt converted four spot kicks and the team of PSV player Arouna Koné found the net only twice. The Elephants made sure of a semi-final victory after a stunning twelve penalties, but this time the winner of the penalty shoot out could be announced fairly quickly. Didier Drogba, who took the first penalty, had his effort saved, but the Ivorians were given new hope when Abdel Halim Ali failed to convert the third spot kick for Egypt. But when keeper Essam El Hadary had saved the weekly struck effort by Bakari Koné, Abu Treka became the hero of Egypt by firing home his penalty. Both teams had their moments during official time. Egypt, who had home advantage, were tremendously supported by 75, 000 fans. When neither team had managed to score a goal in extra time (Egypt missed a penalty in extra time), a penalty shoot out was needed to get a result. Ivory Coast got the short end of the stick. It was the fifth time Egypt have won the Africa Cup of Nations.
