PSV MEDIA - Edward Sturing is the new PSV Youth Academy Director. He will sign a two-year-deal, with an option for a third. Sturing will start his new job on 1 July next. Sturing, 43-years-old next week, will succeed Joop Brand, who leaves PSV after three seasons. Brand and Sturing were colleagues at the Vitesse Youth Academy before. Sturing and PSV discussed some final details today, before they reached an agreement. “Three months ago a newspaper published an article on me, but nothing was going on at that time. PSV got in touch with me only recently and that’s when we started negotiations, in particular about a highly personal interpretation of my function. I will be the new Youth Academy Director and Gerrit van Tilburg will mainly take care of the organization. I will be on the pitch frequently, among the players. That’s what I like to do and what I am expected to do. I am looking forward very much to working together with the players and the youth coaches”, announced Sturing to PSV Media at De Herdgang training base on Wednesday afternoon.Sturing was head coach of Vitesse the past three seasons, but he has also gained a lot of experience as a youth coach.“I have been in charge of all the Vitesse youth teams, where I met Stijn Schaars and Nick Hofs, among other players. PSV are a top club and I feel there are plenty of opportunities to do a great job here. I will be out on the pitch most of the time and I will be supported by a great many people.”PSV and Sturing rounded off talks yesterday and the new Youth Academy Director will start his job at De Herdgang training base as from 1 July next.Ronald KoemanSturing has an excellent record. He started his career as a professional football player with De Graafschap in the 1982-1983 season, after which he made a move to Vitesse. He spent 18 years at Vitesse both in the playing and coaching capacities. Sturing was assistant coach of the current PSV head coach Ronald Koeman, Youth Academy Director with Joop Brand and he was Vitesse head coach the past three seasons. Sturing has won three caps for his country, all during the 1989-1990 campaign. Sturing is looking forward to cooperating with Ronald Koeman. “Joop Brand and Koeman are familiar with the way I work. I feel I have accepted a challenging position”, explained Sturing.
