Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder has confirmed today that his latest fine signing Damien Duff will start Saturday’s pre-season friendly against PSV. The Irish winger signed a five-year contract with the Magpies recently. Duff had indicated before he hoped to be involved in Saturday's home friendly against PSV. The winger spent seven seasons with Blackburn Rovers, before he made a move to Chelsea three years ago. He was regularly fielded, when Chelsea won two Premiership titles. Duff paid the price for Chelsea’s big squad and Manager Mourinho did not see him as a constant first-choice player, though the Chelsea boss always spoke highly of him. The 27-year-old winger is believed to have turned down Liverpool and Tottenham, when Newcastle United showed an interest. Chelsea and Newcastle soon reached an agreement. He was left out of the squad that travelled to Norwich for a pre-season friendly, but he is set to make his first appearance for the Magpies against PSV. Next week Saturday Newcastle United will welcome the Spanish side Villareal, last season’s Champions League semi finalists, to St James’ Park for another interesting pre-season friendly.
