PSV are in England for a five-day training camp. At the end of each day PSV.nl presents a diary, covering some special news. The No 4 entry, from Newcastle, focuses on Ronald Koeman’s powerful shots. Just before the start of the training session on Friday afternoon, when the squad was already warming up, PSV boss Koeman collected a few balls, put them on the edge of the area and fired shot after shot. He did not blast them, but his well-struck efforts were successful: he coolly curled all of them home. As a player, he made a huge impact with his trademark powerful shots and free kicks. He wrapped up many games and most of the goals he scored were crucial ones. He netted many goals during three successful seasons at PSV (1986-1989), before he moved to Feyenoord, where he ended his footballing career as a player in 1997.He scored a phenomenal 193 goals in 533 games, more than any other defender in the world. In 2001, at the age of 38, when he was coach at Vitesse, he told a reporter: “When you are in charge of a training session, you are the boss. But when you join the players after training and fire a few shots, you are one of the lads.” Then he shot ten times and it seemed as if time stood still.
