PSV head coach Ronald Koeman thought his players had made things difficult for themselves in Werkendam and he praised Kozakken Boys for playing a well-organised, compact defence. "They did a great job and we did not. It’s as simple as that." "We wanted to score an early goal, but we did not get any space. We omitted to use the wings, so it was hard to create clear-cut chances. Kozakken Boys had a great night. The fans supported their team enthusiastically and there was a tremendous football atmosphere. They did a great job and we did not. It’s as simple as that. But we shouldn’t worry too much." Patrick Kluivert played for the full ninety minutes. It was a deliberate choice. "We realised that he is not yet completely match-fit and that’s why we didn’t take him off. He needs to play games to be 100% fit. We will see on Saturday whether he has made any progress", explained Koeman at the post-match press conference. Ad van Seeters, the Kozakken Boys coach was realistic in his analysis of the game. "We were well organised and attempted to start some counter attacks. We brought on Leo Koswal after the break and hoped he would score a lucky goal. But we were tired in the closing stages. I have already apologised to Ronald Koeman for playing such a defensive game. We usually play a 3-4-3 system, but we did not tonight. It would not have been good for the image of Dutch football if we had enjoyed a win. But we played a fair game and the referee did not show any cards. It was quite an event for our club. It has been a privilege playing PSV and sitting here, beside Ronald Koeman. The atmosphere tonight was electric. Therefore I would like to thank the boards and all volunteers for a great night of cup football and I will like to conclude by thanking our fans for their support."
