At the post-match press conference PSV head coach Ronald Koeman announced his side had earned a deserved victory over Bordeaux, but he felt Michael Lamey should never have been dismissed. "He did not commit a foul, so he did not deserve to be shown red." "After tonight’s win, we have obviously made a move in the right direction and are on course to qualify for the knockout stages", said Koeman. "We played a well-organised defence. Bordeaux did not create chances, whereas we earned two opportunities to open the scoring. And when they moved men forward after the break, they found it difficult to cause us any problems. When we had scored a fine opening goal, we kept on defending well. We survived a few scares in the closing stages, when we were reduced to ten men, but held on." The controversial red card was another topic. "I haven’t seen video footage yet, but I have been told it was not a red card. We will certainly challenge the decision, if we have an opportunity to do so.” Koeman was not willing to be overconfident. "We have just played two games, so there are four more to go. But we have pulled off a great result and are in a good position to secure qualification." "We started playing football, when it was too late", remarked Bordeaux head coach Ricardo Gomes after the game. “But we still have chances to secure qualification from the group. It is not all over yet. It was a physical and fast game.” The French press critically informed after the back four, but the Brazilian coach did not reproach his rearguard. “We play Champions League football, which is different from the French league. I won’t reproach any of my players. We are less experienced than PSV."
