Koeman: "We were sloppy and did not create much" (PSV.nl)

PSV head coach Ronald Koeman took a realistic stance, when analysing the game at the post-match press conference. "A lot of our play was really sloppy and so we did not create much up front. As we frequently lost possession of the ball in the first half, we had a hard time." Midfield"Our midfielders did not meet expectations", explained Koeman. "We had a hard time, as our midfielders were often dispossessed. Looking at things positively, you might say that we didn’t concede much. Our second half was better, but they scored the opening goal, just when we were moving men forward. We did not enjoy much possession of the ball, but we did not do too badly and had hardly been properly tested until they broke the deadlock." BordeauxKoeman felt it was a setback that Cocu was forced to withdraw just before the warming-up. "He had a fever, which was obviously a shame. But he felt ill and I did not want to take any risks, as we had already ensured qualification." PSV will finish second in group C, irrelevant to the result of the final group stage game, at home against Bordeaux on Matchday 6. “We need a win to end the group stage qualification campaign in style. You need to win at home, but we will face a tall task, in between two tough away games in the domestic league."Liverpool coach Rafael Benitez was delighted with the win, but felt the achievement was marred by a triple injury blow: "To lose three players with injuries is a high price." Mark Gonzalez sustained the most serious injury: he was taken away on a stretcher with a torn hamstring.
