Phillip Cocu will make his one hundredth appearance in a European game tonight, when PSV meet Panathinaikos FC. The midfielder will join the exclusive ‘club of 100’. Only twelve players have been able to accomplish this feat so far.The 34-year-old versatile player made his European debut on 16 September 1992, when he was fielded as left winger in the UEFA Cup tie between Vitesse versus Derry City (3-0). After that he made another 98 appearances. He made his debut for PSV three years later, away against the Finnish side MyPa (1-1). Cocu was fielded in twelve PSV UEFA Champions League games; he made four appearances in the European Cup for cup winners (1997-1997) and he started eight UEFA Cup ties. Paolo Maldini is on top of the club of 100; he has made as many as 136 European appearances for AC Milan, where he is still active as a player. * still active as a player.
