58-year-old Jan Reker will be PSV’s General Manager as from 1 July. Reker is a former coach at PSV and has been director of Coaches Betaald Voetbal (CBV), the Dutch association of professional football coaches since 1995. Jan Reker had been a coach for 25 years when he was appointed director of the association of professional football coaches in 1995. Jan Timmer, who will stand down from his post as chairman of the board of supervisory directors on 1 July next, announced the news on Wednesday night at a staff meeting. Reker will succeed Frits Schuitema, who became chairman of the club on an interim basis when he replaced Rob Westerhof on 1 October 2006. Schuitema has always made it adamantly clear he considered it his duty to appoint a new General Manager, manage the club himself during an interim period before turning over his office to the new man. So Reker will be the General Manager as from 1 July, while Frits Schuitema will be chairman of the board of supervisory directors. PSV will no longer have a Chairman or a Chairman of the Board, but a General Manager. And for the first time in the club’s history, the ‘first man’ does not come from the ranks of Philips, PSV’s name giver and main sponsor.
Jan Timmer announced at Wednesday night’s staff meeting about the top management changes that director Rob Ribbers will leave the club on 15 May and accept a post elsewhere. “PSV owe him much for his contributions and the dedication he has shown the past years”, Timmer. 44-year-old Marcel van den Bunder, currently active as General Manager at Hotel Carlton de Brug in Mierlo, will be PSV’s new Commercial Manager. After Van den Bunder finished his studies at the Hogere Hotelschool, the international institute for Hospitality Management, in Den Haag, he held several management posts at hotels in Holland and abroad.
