Most defenders are available for Saturday night’s Eredivisie game against NAC Breda. PSV head coach Ronald Koeman told media representatives at the weekly briefing that Jan Kromkamp has recovered from his injury, but added that he would not name his starting eleven before tomorrow, while Carlos Salcido is set to start.
Koeman is upset at what has been said and written in Mexico about Carlos Salcido’s injury. “We have heard some funny stories, but we won’t be a party to that. I will get in touch with Hugo Sanchez, coach of the Mexican team, to clarify the situation. Carlos has picked up a knock to his hip. He went to Mexico to train and play, but picked up another knock. The doctor advised him to go to hospital and then a lot of tall stories were told. PSV told him to return to Eindhoven and now it looks like he does not want to play for his country and is eager to make appearances for PSV. The truth, however, is that Salcido wants to play each and every game both for PSV and his country. He has recovered well and it is hard to imagine that such rumours are being spread when you see him in action at training. He will be included in tomorrow’s starting eleven. He is slightly injured, but training and playing will not present any risks”, said Koeman.
Koeman was also asked to comment on contract extensions, if any, with Eric Addo and John de Jong. “Eric has told us he wants to try his luck somewhere else, as he wants to compete for more playing time. He is a great team player, but I can’t make him any promises.”
Koeman is willing to offer John de Jong a contract extension, provided the midfielder will return to full fitness. “De Jong joined in first-team training the past two days and we will just have to wait and see how he recovers from the exertions.”
Koeman also said that PSV are ready to enter the final stages of the current campaign and hope to bounce back to winning ways, following some disappointing defeats. “I am sure the players will respond well. They realise much is at stake and will put in a passionate performance tomorrow night. The ball is in our court as the fans turn up in large numbers to support us on our travels to NAC Breda and N.E.C.”
