Ronald Koeman was left bitterly disappointed after his side 1-1 draw with FC Utrecht at the Galgenwaard Stadium. PSV coach realised at the post-match press conference that PSV’s fate was not in their own hands any more following the 1-1 draw in Utrecht and that they are no longer in pole position. “We have created five or six good chances, but scored only one goal.” “I’ll try to analyse the game as soberly as possible”, said Ronald Koeman at the press conference. “We were well-organised, put in a fine first-half performance and could have doubled the advantage before the break. After the interval we created some good chances and Koné wasted the best opportunity. We have created five or six good chances, but scored only one goal. We have failed to kill off the game. When you are leading by only one goal, they can always score an equaliser and that nightmare scenario materialised. This is a terrible disappointment. If you want to keep fate in your own hands, a 1-1 draw will never do.”
Koeman explained why he had been forced to take off Farfán and Alex. “Farfán had already announced at half time that he was suffering from a hamstring strain. That’s why I brought on Zeefuik, who is talented and has got tremendous pace. I would obviously never have taken off Alex, if he had not asked to be substituted himself after he had picked up a calf problem.” FC Utrecht coach Foeke Booy said his side had been facing an uphill battle before the break and admitted they were lucky to snatch one point, in view of the many good chances that PSV had created, but he also applauded his side’s commitment.
