The Netherlands U-21 won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship for the second time running after they emphatically beat Serbia 4-1 in Groningen on a glorious night for Dutch football. Midfielder Otman Bakkal represented PSV and opened the scoring in an entertaining game.
Bakkal scored a quick opening goal after 17 minutes, setting the tone of the match and the fans were treated to a feast of good football. Netherlands coach Foppe de Haan had to build an almost completely new team, but he has done it again and the genial coach from the county of Friesland was carried in triumph by his players after Saturday’s game and he and his victorious squad were treated to a heroes’ welcome in Heerenveen on Sunday afternoon. It did not stop raining when the Dutch team was honoured and when bottles of champagne were opened, the players got soaked even more! PSV.nl congratulate Foppe, the players, Otman Bakkal, Roy Beerens and Ismail Aissati in particular, on winning the European title again!
