Ronald Koeman did not make any spectacular statements during the first media briefing of the new season. The PSV head coach explained media representatives that he would monitor the new signings at training the next few days. <L CODE="C02">Arouna Koné</L> was the only noticeable absentee from this morning’s session, and Koeman referred to the Ivory Coast striker’s absence as ‘unprofessional.’
“Koné thought we would return to training later in the week, but he should have been here today”, said Koeman, who was not worried about having to work with a depleted squad. “Some lads have been granted an additional rest following their efforts at several tournaments. There may be some changes in personnel during the pre-season campaign; we must see to it that everybody will be physically fit and so the players will be put through their paces.” Koeman remained tight-lipped over any possible moves. “We have agreed not to publicly discuss transfer speculation or rumour and so I will not comment on that issue.” The PSV head coach admitted he had heard transfer rumours about Alex as well. “When I was on holiday I was told that Alex’s proposed move to Chelsea may not materialise. We would obviously be delighted if he stayed here for one more season, but to be honest I don’t think he will.” Newcomer <L CODE="C01">Mike Zonneveld</L> had enjoyed his first working day at PSV. “It was great to train at such a big club. I would love to clinch the Dutch title with PSV, but my first priority is to secure a regular first-team place”, said the defender
