PSV MEDIA - Sevilla have confirmed the signing of Arouna Koné from PSV. The African put to pen to paper today on a five-year contract with the 2006 and 2007 UEFA Cup winners, after he had already been linked with the club from Andalusia for some time. 23-year-old Koné joined PSV in 2005 and won the Dutch league title twice with the Eindhoven outfit.
Ivory Coast international Koné, born in Anyama on 11 November 1983, started his European career at Lierse SK in 2002. He then made a move to the Netherlands, where he completed a deal with Roda JC. After having spent over two seasons in the south of the province of Limburg, his dream of playing for a top club came true, when he joined PSV in August 2005.
The striker was impressive both in the domestic league and in the UEFA Champions League campaign, showing physical strength and pace, an eye for the goal and great dribbling skills. “PSV have completed a lucrative dealâ€, explains General Manager Jan Reker about Koné's transfer to Sevilla. “He is a great player and we did not want him to leave Eindhoven, but we have invested a lot of money him. Sevilla made us a good offer and we felt obliged to consider a transfer in the interest of PSV. We will attract a good player to replace himâ€, said Reker. Sevilla have confirmed the news on the club's website, announcing Koné will undergo a medical. He is set to be unveiled in Sevilla next Saturday.
