PSV have earned a 3-0 business-like victory over Willem II at the Philips Stadium on Saturday night. Danny Koevermans scored a first-half double and Jefferson Farfán opened his scoring account for PSV this season thirteen minutes from time, giving the score line a slightly flattering look. Ronald Koeman's team is on top of the table, going into the international break next week.

PSV made no secrets of their intentions: they wanted to play attacking football, handing starts to Koevermans, Lazovic, Farfán and Perez, but the home crowd, who had looked eagerly forward to seeing a lot of action, was not treated to an impressive game of football. PSV played low-tempo football and frequently produced inaccurate passes. The hosts carved open the visitors' defence for the first time after only twenty minutes. Lazovic cleverly turned away from Willem II captain Hill and set up Koevermans, who scored the opening goal. PSV had started most moves in the initial stages, without producing sparkling football, though. The remainder of the first half did not see much more goal mouth action. After they were a goal down, Willem II surged forward and forced four corners in quick succession, which came to nothing. On the stroke of half time PSV doubled their lead, when Farfán produced a shot on target that Koevermans managed to slide into the net from close range, taking his tally for the season to three; 2-0.

PSV started slowly in the second half and created only some half-chances, and the fans had again no reason to get excited. Koeman brought on Zonneveld for Marcellis and Bakkal, who had shaken off a knee injury, came on to replace Perez. PSV upped a gear after Koeman had made his final substitution, Koevermans out, Aissati in. Farfán had an effort saved by Willem II goalkeeper Vermeer, but no player was on hand to tap home the rebound. Minutes later PSV made it three, when Farfán curled home a sweetly struck free kick from 20 yards. PSV had obviously put the result beyond doubt and perfunctorily passed the ball around in the closing stages. Twelve players will be away on international duty next week. Ronald Koeman's team will be next in action in two weeks, on Saturday 20 October, when they play host to VVV-Venlo.
