The Dutch football magazine for youngsters called Voetbal International for Kids has published an interview with DaMarcus Beasley in which he explains the American way of celebrating Christmas. Below you will find a few fragments from the article. What is the meaning of Christmas in the United States of America?"It has a very special meaning. Some people are religious, so they contemplate the birth of Jesus Christ. For other people Christmas is a special event, because they are with family and friends. It is an important holiday for the Americans. We also try to help poor people get through the Christmas period in the United States."How are you going to spend Christmas?"I am with family in Fort Wayne in the state of Indiana on Christmas Eve and at Christmas. The whole family will be gathering together. We’ll sit down together for our Christmas dinner in the evening and have a jolly good time."How do people in America celebrate the New Year?"We have dinner on New Year’s Eve and actually we won’t do anything special. At twelve o’ clock we raise the glasses and we wish everybody a Happy New Year. We’ll have a glass of wine or a glass of champagne and we’ll be watching the fireworks. I don’t know yet what I’m going to do. I’ll probably be in Chicago, where there is usually a big party going on. There are no fixed rituals in the United States on New Year’s Eve. Sometimes I stay at home and then again I might go and visit some friends, depending on how I feel like it."
