PSV midfielder Timmy Simons has pulled out of the Belgium squad for the forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifying matches against Poland and Azerbaijan. The PSV and Red Devils captain sustained a back injury during the Monday training session, which will keep him sidelined for the international games. Belgium's UEFA Euro 2008 qualification hopes were already ended. The PSV medical staff got in touch with the Belgian Football Association on Tuesday, after which it was decided to rest Simons this week. Next week, Simons will undergo tests to see if he is fit enough to start training again.
The Dutch team meanwhile started preparing for the upcoming Euro 2008 qualifying games against Luxembourg and Belarus. 19 players reported for training, while five, including PSV striker Danny Koevermans , skipped the first training session in Katwijk, due to minor physical complaints. Koevermans, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Wesley Sneijder and Demy de Zeeuw, who all suffer from muscle injuries, and Kew Jaliens, who is fighting a knee problem, hope to return to full training soon.
