The Dutch team suffered a 2-1 defeat against Belarus in Minsk on Wednesday night in their final Euro 2008 qualifying game. As the visitors had already secured their place at next summer's finals, the result of the final qualifier was not of overriding importance. Yet the Dutch team ended their campaign on a sour note, putting in a disappointing display. Netherlands coach Marco van Basten stuck to his 4-3-3 system, with PSV forward Danny Koevermans as striker up front.

The result left Holland in second place in Group G behind Romania. When Holland were trailing 2-0, Rafael van der Vaart scored a late consolation goal for Marco van Basten's men. It was bitterly cold in Minsk, so Danny Koevermans was given a taste of what might be in store when PSV take on CSKA Moscow in Russia on Tuesday. Koevermans made sure of qualification at the Rotterdam Kuip last Saturday by scoring the only goal of the night in Holland's 1-0 victory against Luxembourg. The Oranje missed several key players in Belarus: Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie were injured, while Edwin van der Sar and Clarence Seedorf were rested. The draw for the UEFA 2008 European championship will take place on 2 December.
