Jan Wouters did not beat about the bush, when asked at the post-match press conference to analyse his side's 4-2 defeat against Roda JC. 'I have no wish to detract from their achievements; they deserve a compliment for their spirited display.' The visitors' emphatic win was marred by news that the father of Roda JC defender Davy de Fauw needed resuscitation during the game.

Roda coach Raymond Atteveld immediately took off De Fauw fifteen minutes from time, when he was told the bad news. 'We are proud to have earned such a convincing win over the reigning champions. Davy de Fauw's father is still in critical condition. Our thoughts are with him and we hope he will recover.' He referred to his side's win as 'an emphatic victory'. 'We were forced to defend deeply in the first ten minutes and could not put pressure on their defence. But then we gradually took control and soon turned the game completely around. Claiming a 4-1 over PSV in Eindhoven is a great achievement and we are proud to have put in such a commanding attacking display.'
Jan Wouters commented briefly on his side's embarrassing 4-2 defeat and was not looking for excuses. 'I have no wish to detract from their achievements. We did all right in the first ten minutes, but then a lot of things went awfully wrong. We conceded acres of space, frequently lost possession and were slow in switching from defence to attack. We could have been trailing 4-0 at half time. I had hoped we would get back into the game after the break, but things went from bad to worse. I think Roda JC thoroughly deserved their win. We want to wish Davy de Fauw and his father all the best in these troubled times.'
