The PSV first-team squad defied the freezing cold on Thursday morning and trained on the pitch in the Philips Stadium, where they play host to FC Utrecht on Saturday night. The grass pitches at De Herdgang training centre, badly affected by the frost, are currently unplayable. The circumstances at the Philips Stadium were better, in spite of temperatures a few degrees below zero.
Three more fixtures are scheduled before the winter break sets in. PSV entertain FC Utrecht on Saturday before they travel to the north of the Netherlands on Christmas Day to prepare for Boxing Day's clash with FC Groningen. PSV finally face NAC Breda at the Philips Stadium on Sunday 30 December to conclude the first part of the season. The players will be given a week off before new caretaker coach Sef Vergoossen takes charge of the training sessions in the new year.
