PSV General Manager Jan Reker presented a positive image of PSV during his New Year speech that he made at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven at the traditional New Year Reception on Monday night. 2008 will be a successful year, if PSV succeed in qualifying for the Champions League group stage, for the thirteenth successive time. Reker also looked back at 2007, and reviewed the successful year.

Many guests, business partners, honorary members, players, coaching staff and media representatives had come to the Philips Stadium Business Club on the fourth floor to raise their glass, toast to the new year and offer their best wishes at the traditional New Year Reception.
Reker made a speech, underlining the club's successes, referring in particular to 29 April 2007, when PSV won the title on a scintillating afternoon in an incredibly thrilling and nerve-racking game on the last match day of the season. PSV also reached the Champions League quarter finals and professionals named PSV's Youth Academy the best in the Netherlands. 'PSV also boast business successes as we play our home matches in front of a capacity crowd and our business concepts are sold out. The Phoxy Club has over 20, 000 members. The budget was raised to an unprecedented 88 million Euro. We posted a positive financial result for the 2006-2007 season, but past performances are no guarantee of future results. We will continue to keep a close eye on all aspects of our financial life', said Reker, who also referred to several successful community projects and the fantastic gigs popular singer Guus Meeuwis had performed in a sold out Philips Stadium.
Reker also looked back at the departures of defender Alex, midfielder Cocu, head coach Koeman and his assistant Bruins Slot and explained why PSV had agreed to a move of Kenneth Perez to Ajax during the January window. 'Kenneth felt unsettled after spending a spell on the bench and asked for permission to start negotiations with another club. 'I am nearly 34 and I don't feel like warming the bench for another eighteen months', he told us. PSV rather reluctantly agreed with a transfer, but decided to comply with his wishes, as we have three young players that have come through all the youth ranks who can play in that position. By selling Kenneth Perez, PSV have made it emphatically clear they want to offer their own youth players an opportunity to show their skills. We received adequate financial compensation and we had promised him to keep our word.'
'We are delighted that key players the likes of Afellay, Aissati, Gomes, Salcido and Simons have pledged their future to PSV by signing contract extensions. The future looks bright, as Lazovic and Koevermans have also agreed long-term deals with the club, while talented several talented youngsters, including Da Costa, Jonathan and Fagner, are making progress. I want to thank Jan Wouters very much for filling in as caretaker manager for two months. It was by no means a simple challenge, but when the winter break set in, PSV were on top of Eredivisie once again, for the sixth time running.'
