Academy Director Edward Sturing has confirmed he will leave PSV at the end of the season. The 44-year-old former international wants to take charge of a team as head coach and leaves the club, whom he joined in the summer of 2006 to succeed Joop Brand, by mutual consent.
'PSV are a great club, but I am looking forward to the challenge of taking charge of a team as head coach. I miss the pre-match stress and want to put on my shoes and be on the training pitch again', said Sturing, who received the Rinus Michels award, the trophy for the best Academy in the Netherlands, on behalf of PSV last season.
Sturing, who was born in Apeldoorn, has a proven track record for managing teams. He made 431 appearances for De Graafschap and Vitesse, before he took control at Vitesse as coach of youth teams, Academy Director, assistant coach and head coach for three seasons. Sturing has been capped three times by his country. He will continue to act as Academy Director at PSV until his contract expires in summer and will then look for a new challenge and move on with his football career.
