Ghana, host of the Africa Cup of Nations, earned a late 2-1 victory in their opening Africa Cup of Nations game against Guinea, in Accra. At half time the score was still 0-0, but Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari gave Ghana a 2-1 win with a last-gasp wonder strike.

Udinese forward Asamoah Gyan opened the scoring for Ghana after 55 minutes when he converted from the penalty spot, but Oumar Kalabane scored an equaliser for Guinea only ten minutes later. With the game headed for a draw, Muntari rifled a 25-yard shot into the top corner in the last minute of added time, lifting Ghana to a 2-1 win. PSV defender Eric Addo, who played the full 90 minutes, was booked after 57 minutes. Ghana will be next in action on Thursday 24 January when they take on Namibia in their second group stage game.
