Ghana have earned a place in the semi finals of the Africa Cup of Nations. The hosts of the prestigious tournament, who handed PSV defender Eric Addo his fourth start in a row, came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory against Nigeria, although they were reduced to ten men on the hour mark when John Mensah sent off.
Nigeria took the lead after 35 minutes when Yakubu Aiyegben coolly converted from the spot. Nigeria were awarded the penalty after Eric Addo was adjudged to have tugged the Everton striker's shirt inside the box. Just when Berti Vogts'men thought they would be 1-0 on top at half time, Ghana leveled. Quincy Owusu-Abeyie delivered a perfect cross and Chelsea star Mikaël Essien put in a glancing header that left goalkeeper Austin Ejide with no chance on the stroke of half time. Ghana were reduced to ten men when Mensah was given his marching orders for a professional foul on Osaze Odemwingie. In spite of their numerical disadvantage, Ghana held out and seven minutes from the final whistle they even scored the winning goal. Sulley Muntari found Agogo who blasted home from close range; 2-1. Nigeria could not make amends in the remaining minutes. Ghana have booked a place in the semi finals and will meet the winners of the quarter final fixture between Tunisia and Cameroon scheduled for tonight.

Ivory Coast also progressed to the semi finals after the team of, among other players, former PSV striker Arouna Koné cruised to a resounding 5-0 victory against struggling Guinea, thanks to a Salomon Kalou double and a goal scored by Didier Drogba. The semi finals are scheduled for Thursday night, so Eric Addo will not be available for PSV's Eredivisie top clash with in-form sc Heerenveen at the Philips Stadium on Saturday night.
