Clothing sponsor Nike has launched the new home kit that the Dutch national football team will be wearing at the UEFA European Championship in Switzerland and Austria this summer. At first sight the new home kit, an orange jersey, white shorts and Nassau blue socks, is not very different from the current one. 'We have continued the trend of producing traditional, but elegant design that we launched in 2006, while introducing some new features', explain Nike designer Thomas Walker. The new home jersey in the famous and traditional orange features a new and innovative white v-neck collar where the colours of the Dutch flag appear as stripes on the left side. The home shorts are in white with the three colours of the Dutch national flag, white, blue and orange running as stripes across the back on one side, while the socks are in solid Nassau blue, a colour of the Dutch Royal family. On the back of the neck of the jersey reads 'Nederland' while inside the neck are the first lines from the national anthem: Wilhelmus van Nassouwe, ben ik, van Duitsen bloed, den Vaderland getrouwe, blijf ik tot in den dood.'
The redesigned Dutch Football Federation crest is now inspired by the crown worn by the lion within their original crest. It appears on the left side of the chest. The jersey has a new dynamic fit, which has a greater tightness on the body. Former PSV strikers Ruud van Nistelrooy en Klaas Jan Huntelaar promote Nike's new home kit. Nike has been clothing sponsors of all the Dutch national football teams since 1996, while PSV agreed a kit sponsorship with Nike in 1995. PSV's clothing sponsors will also launch a new home and away kit for the 2008/08 season for PSV.
