PSV are seven points clear of second-placed Ajax after they recorded a 3-0 win over FC Groningen on Saturday and Ajax slipped to a 2-1 defeat at FC Twente on Sunday. PSV may win the Dutch title next Saturday for the fourth time in a row, clinching the seventh title in nine years and the twenty-first overall, provided Sef Vergoossen's team claim a win at N.E.C. in Nijmegen and Ajax suffer defeat at sc Heerenveen.
Ten points would then separate PSV from Ajax, an unbridgeable gap, with only three games to go. PSV play host to Heracles Almelo one week later, on Sunday 6 April. The club does not want to run ahead of things. If PSV succeed in winning the Eredivisie title on Saturday, the championship shield will be presented to captain Timmy Simons in Nijmegen, but the title celebrations are scheduled for 6 April, after the Heracles Almelo game. Never before did a team win the title in the month of March, partly because of the early start to the 2007/08 Eredivisie campaign, with Austria co-hosting the EURO 2008 finals with Switzerland this summer.
