Argentina thrashed Mexico 4-1 in an international friendly at the Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego in California. PSV defender Carlos Salcido took his place in the starting line-up, but was taken off on the hour mark, while PSV's latest signing Maza Rodríguez did not make an appearance.

Argentina were 3-0 on top after half an hour's play. Burdisso opened the scoring after 11 minutes. Leo Messi doubled their lead six minutes later. Sinha scored a consolation goal for Mexico after 62 minutes, when Argentina had already put the result beyond doubt. Argentina featured several of their stars, including Demichelis (Bayern Munich), Gago (Real Madrid), Zanetti (Inter), Cruz (Inter), Mascherano (Liverpool) and Messi (FC Barcelona). Sven-Goran Eriksson, who has been appointed as the new coach of Mexico, watched the game. The Mexico squad will fly to Chicago, where they face Peru on Sunday in another international friendly.
