PSV MEDIA - PSV have confirmed the set of fixtures for the forthcoming pre-season calendar. They will play several friendly practise matches abroad, but will not be travelling to America as part of the 2008/09 preparations. The first domestic leg of PSV's pre-season programme will get underway at VV Gestel on July 19.
The senior first team squad of new head coach Huub Stevens will return to training on July 14 following their summer break. Five days later, PSV will start their pre-season campaign with a friendly practise match against amateurs VV Gestel on Saturday 19 July. That will be followed by a trip to SV Vaassen in Epe in the county of Gelderland one week later. The third game will be played against VVV-Venlo on Wednesday 30 July to contest the Herman Teeuwen Memorial trophy. PSV won last year's memorial game in Venlo, after a penalty shoot-out win.
PSV will cross the border for the first time in the build-up to the 2008/08 season in the month of August. On Saturday 2 August, they will meet Sporting Lisbon, who finished second in the Portuguese league last season. The trip to the United States has been definitely cancelled. PSV may play one more friendly that week, but negotiations have not been completed. They will travel to Liverpool on Saturday 9 August where they face Everton.
PSV then head to Spain as part of a busy pre-season schedule when they take on Real Mallorca on Thursday 14 August. Two days later, the new 2008/09 squad will be presented at the annual Fan Day at the Eindhoven Philips Stadium. PSV intend to play one more friendly before they play cup winners Feyenoord on Saturday 23 August, with the Johan Cruijff Shield at stake.
PSV's schedule is subject to changes. The opening game of the new Eredivisie season is scheduled for 30/31 August, one week after the closing ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
