PSV MEDIA â€' Jefferson Farfán will leave PSV after four successful seasons and make a move to Schalke 04, where he teams up with former PSV assistant coach Fred Rutten, the new head coach Gelsenkirchen. Farfán joined PSV in 2004 and clinched the Dutch title four times in as many seasons.
Four-time champion
The 23-year-old Peruvian international will put pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Bundesliga club. At the end of last week, Farfán had already confirmed he was moving to Germany and last night the club from Gelsenkirchen announced on their official website that they had agreed a four-year-deal with the forward after he had passed a medical.
PSV's General Manager Jan Reker claims Schalke 04 paid the transfer sum inserted in Farfán's contract. 'It is too bad he will leave us. He has had four terrific seasons here in Eindhoven and was a key contributor to winning the Eredivisie title four times with PSV in a row. We realised, though, he was keen to make a move to a major league and we grant him his transfer.' Schalke are looking forward to welcoming the versatile forward. 'He has shown his qualities in Holland and in the Champions League quite often', said Schalke manager Andreas Müller on the club's website. He referred to Farfán as 'a very solid player who can help the club take forward.'
The summer of 2004
Farfán, whose full name is Jefferson Agustín Farfán Guadalupe, enjoyed great successes in Eindhoven. He soon became the darling of the terraces ever since he joined PSV and in spite of his young age (he was born on 26 October 1984) the Peruvian had a great impact on winning four titles. Farfán started his career with Alianza Lima in 2001 and joined PSV in the summer of 2004, where scored 8, 21, 21 and 7 goals respectively. He netted PSV's 4000th Eredivisie goal in March 2008. Another Peruvian player will be at the Philips Stadium next season, as talented and promising striker Reimond Manco completed a deal with PSV earlier.
