A superb first-half goal from Liverpool striker Fernando Torres after thirty-three minutes proved enough to give Spain a 1-0 victory over Germany in the Euro 2008 final in Vienna. The victory gave Spain their first major trophy since they won the European Championships in 1964.
Six victories
Spain's unbeaten streak continued as Luis Aragones's team recorded six consecutive victories at the Euro 2008 against Russia, Sweden, Greece, Italy, Russia and Germany, respectively. David Villa, who was ruled out of Sunday's Euro 2008 final due to injury, became the tournament's leading scorer with four goals. Tens of thousands of fans in Vienna and Spain were euphoric at the Euro 2008 win and celebrations are likely to continue for many days to come. As Spain played the best football, they deserved to win the Euro 2008 in Switzerland and Austria.
