PSV MEDIA - Yelmer Buurman has been selected to drive the PSV car in the inaugural Superleague Formula championship. The 21-year-old from Ubbergen, near Nijmegen, will climb into the PSV race car, run by Azerti in Belgium. Yelmer will be unveiled at a press conference and he will be officially presented to the public during the annual PSV FAN Day, later this afternoon.
Next season
General manager Jan Reker will unveil Yelmer Buurman to the press and the Superleague Formula racing driver will be presented to the public, while wearing a PSV shirt on the pitch of the Philips Stadium. Two weeks ago, Buurman drove the PSV car for the first time, at a series test at the Barcelona circuit. Buurman is going to sign a one-year contract shortly, with an option for a further year. 'I can't wait to drive it and am absolutely delighted to have been selected to represent PSV in the Superleague Formula.'
Donington
Until recently, Buurman old contested in the European GP2 Championship for Trust Team Arden. The Asia Series and Main Series brought the 21-year old two podium places. Buurman will now continue his career in the Superleague Formula. The opening round of the inaugural Superleague Formula championship will take place at Britain's Donington Park circuit. 'I am so excited', said Yelmer at the Philips Stadium on Saturday morning. He made the acquaintance of the PSV board of directors and climbed into the PSV car that will be displayed to the crowd during the Fan Day. Buurman finalised the deal yesterday and the 21-year old driver will have the chance to meet football and motoring fans.
Number 5
'The 2008 Superleague Formula schedule kicks off at Donington Park on 30-31 August and I am looking forward to it. We will first test the car three days at Donington. Everything is new: the organisation and the championship itself. We aim to make a huge impact and it is our ambition to reach the podium', said Buurman, who was given a No 5 shirt. Mike Zonneveld wears the No 5 shirt, but Buurman had his name printed on a replica shirt, because he will drive the number five car this year. 'I think it's quite an honour and I'm excited to be going to Donington Park for the inaugural race.'
