Huub Stevens has called up 17-year-old Ojo to his squad to face Young PSV in Tuesday's KNVB Cup tie at the Philips Stadium. The talented youngster made his first-team debut last season and also made some appearances for Stevens' team in pre-season friendlies.
Midfielder and defender
Funso Ojo, born and raised in Antwerpen where he still lives, is generally regarded as a greatly talented player. The versatile Belgian can play either in defence or in midfield. Although Ojo is only seventeen, he was invited to join the first-team squad for training a number of times. He joined the PSV Academy from KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen in the 2004/05 season. He has been progressing through the youth set up before he was included in the Young PSV squad in summer. With Young PSV, he won KNVB Cup for reserve teams, booking a place in the main tournament. The PSV second string has remarkably been drawn against PSV.
Debut in 2007 as a junior player
At the age of fifteen, Funso Ojo made his debut for PSV on 19 May 2007. He was still a junior player when the then head coach Ronald Koeman brought him on after half an hour in the friendly against amateurs HVCH. Sef Vergoossen invited the youngster a number of times to join the first-team squad for training and Ojo also made some appearances for Stevens' team in pre-season friendlies. Funso Ojo can play anywhere across the midfield, but his favourite position is the holding midfield role. He has only been called up to the first team squad for tonight's Cup tie in order to gain valuable experience. He will be wearing the No 36 shirt when he makes his official debut in a competitive match at the Philips Stadium.
