PSV head coach Huub Stevens was critical of his team's display in the 1-0 win over FC Volendam. 'It has been a disappointing game and we have to blame ourselves for not scoring early on. Yet I am satisfied we dominated the game to claim three points', said Stevens.
'Unacceptable'
'When we didn't manage to score a goal, we got impatient and Volendam took heart and thought they might get a result', said Stevens, who had seen Stijn Wuytens secure victory for PSV at the Philips Stadium on Saturday night after all. 'We created a lot of chances and we know we could have scored more goals. We have wasted a great many opportunities to score and that's unacceptable. The crowd rightly felt frustrated and I feel they were entitled to boo us off the pitch. But I am satisfied we dominated the game to claim three points', said Stevens at the post-match press conference.
Adelaar preview
FC Volendam coach Frans Adelaar said that his team had not been travelling to Eindhoven to serve PSV victory on a plate and grant them a morale-boosting win ahead of Wednesday's Champions League. 'We obviously knew PSV were keen to take an early lead and put pressure on our defence. That's why we opted to play a well-organised defence and give them no space at the back. With the clock ticking on, PSV were forced to bring on substitutes in a bid to rescue something of the game and we even started some counter attacks. PSV broke the deadlock when we were dispossessed. They were the better team and they deserved the win. I must hail my team for a well-disciplined performance. We will take the positives out of the game and hope to earn points soon.'
