At the press conference on Tuesday night, ahead of Wednesday's clash between PSV and Olympique Marseille, Erik Gerets announced that only a win would do for his team. 'We would normally be happy with one point in an away match, but not this time. I expect an open game', said Olympique Marseille coach Gerets.
'Make-or-break game'
Marseille coach Gerets and former PSV player Boudewijn Zenden were the guests at the traditional press conference ahead of the game. 'We'll face a make-or-break game tomorrow night. We would normally be happy with one point in an away match, but not this time. It will be a mission impossible if we don't collect all three points. I expect an open game', said Gerets in the stadium, where he spent seven years as a player and three seasons as a coach. 'It's rather strange that PSV should have lost two league games already, but things like that may happen. I don't expect a physical battle. In fact, I think it'll be entertaining game with two teams that want to attack and keep the ball low.'
'A vital game'
Boudewijn Zenden returns for the third time in three seasons to the club where he started his fine career, with spells at, among other clubs FC Barcelona, Chelsea and Liverpool. He was on the winning side with Liverpool when they played at the Philips Stadium in 2006 and 2007. 'I am happy to be back here. The double header with PSV is vital for us. If we manage to win both games, we may have a chance to advance to the next round. We are aware of the importance of the game.' Zenden did not see PSV in action this season, but knew that they had suffered a 2-1 defeat at NAC Breda. 'I remember that playing at NAC was a tough challenge. But I take each game as it comes. Olympique as well as PSV desperately need three points', said Zenden, who described French football as 'technically very skilful, physically strong, with plenty of speed and teams that know how to defend.'
