PSV coach Huub Stevens was understandably happy with his side's victory as they recorded a 2-0 win at ADO in Den Haag on Tuesday night. 'We knew we could not afford to drop points after we had suffered two straight defeats. We are pleased to have collected the full three points from our tough trip to Den Haag', he said at the post-match press conference.
Stevens: 'Keep working hard'
'I feel my side deserved to win the match', started Stevens his analysis of the game in Den Haag. 'We were well-organised and created a number of good chances in the first half. Lazovic should have opened the scoring after four minutes. It would have boosted his confidence. We improved after the break and we had opportunities to double our advantage once we had broken the deadlock. It is true we were dispossessed at time, but there was a great work ethic and the lads were well organised. The players must have complete confidence in themselves and each other, but sometimes there was a lack of communication among our players. I am happy with the three points but I realise we did not put in a particularly sparkling performance. There is still ample room for improvement and we will keep working hard to make progress' concluded Stevens, who had made six changes to the starting line-up as he was keen to field fresh players.
Wetzel: 'Proud of my players'
ADO Den Haag coach André Wetzel was proud of his players as they were really close to scoring the equaliser during the closing stages. 'We had some opportunities in the last fifteen minutes when we surged forward in numbers. I told the lads I am proud of them. If you don't score goals, you usually don't deserve to get a result. We played well in the first half, but conceded a goal after the break at an inconvenient moment. We pulled ourselves together and went in search of an equaliser.' Addo scored the opening goal as he was not marked very well. 'He was allowed to start building up the attacks but we should obviously not have given him an opportunity to burst into the box. The centre backs defended sloppily, just when PSV enjoyed possession and passed the ball around. We went into the game with the intention to give our all. We wanted to put pressure on their defence and that's what we did. I am proud of my players.'
