PSV ran riot against MVV at the Philips Stadium on Tuesday afternoon as they prepared for the start of the second half of the season at Roda JC on Saturday. 1500 fans saw Huub Stevens' team run out comfortable 7-1 winners in an entertaining friendly game.
5-0 after thirty minutes
PSV coach Huub Stevens made some changes to the team that drew 0-0 with Anderlecht in La Manga on Friday afternoon, fielding some fringe players. Méndez returned to the starting line-up. Cássio Ramos was handed a place between the posts and there were also starts for Maza, Méndez, Zonneveld, Wuytens, Kromkamp and Nijland. The visitors from Maastricht included the former PSV players Ruud Boffin and Robert van Boxel and leading scorer Gunther Thiebaut in their starting line-up. MVV were attack minded and left acres of space at the back. PSV had already wasted three goalscoring opportunities in the first ten minutes when captain Koevermans set up Dzsudzsák to open the scoring after thirteen minutes. PSV subsequently scored goals by the hatful. Two minutes after the opening goal, Koevermans himself doubled PSV's advantage and Lazovic superbly curled home a free kick after 21 minutes. Lazovic coolly chipped the advancing keeper on the half-hour mark and Marcellis blasted home a free kick past keeper Boffin in the 34th minute.
Three second half substitutions
Huub Stevens made three substitutions at half time, replacing Ramos, Marcellis and Dzsudzsák for Roorda, Bréchet and Amrabat, respectively. The second half continued in much the same vein and Koevermans made it 6-0 on the hour-mark. MVV were outclassed and failed to create any goalscoring opportunities. It was a useful run out for PSV who will face Roda JC on Sunday at the start of the second half of the season. Bréchet piled more misery on MVV, heading home from a corner after 69 minutes; 7-0. Substitute Gideo Boateng scored a consolation goal for the visitors twelve minutes from time, to the delight of some 150 travelling fans. The PSV will have the Wednesday off and report back for training at De Herdgang sports centre on Thursday.
