PSV coach Dwight Lodeweges analysed his team's 5-3 win against FC Volendam at the post-match press conference. 'We have passed a number of tests; the next few weeks we will do our exams. It was a crazy game. I am happy with the result as we scored five goals. But we were sloppy at times and not well-organised', said Lodeweges.
'We didn't defend well'
Lodeweges praised FC Volendam for a spirited performance. 'They played their hearts out this afternoon. It was a crazy game. We knew they would leave space at the back, as they move men forward. They've provided tough opposition. I don't think we've defended well, though. I am happy with the result as we scored five goals in an away game, but we also conceded three goals. I think we've passed a number of tests; the next few weeks we will do our exams.'
Adelaar: 'We played our hearts out'
'We didn't intend to defend deeply and put pressure on them whenever possible', explained FC Volendam coach Frans Adelaar his game plan. 'PSV can switch quickly from defence to attack and they took a two-goal lead through set pieces. We showed great resilience and were back on level terms after half an hour. When PSV had been reduced to ten men, they leaned back and threatened on the counter attack. We brought on an extra forward, but then we also had a player sent off. We are left empty-handed, but I want to pay the players a huge compliment for the brave way they have battled. They've played their hearts out, but unfortunately we were not rewarded for our efforts in the end.'
