Holland Under-21 were held to a 1-1 draw by their Italian counterparts in an international friendly in Kerkrade on Tuesday. Siem de Jong headed home the opening goal for Holland. Nordin Amrabat, who was on target in Friday's emphatic 4-0 victory against Germany Under-21, started on the bench.
Amrabat played 45 minutes
Holland coach Johan Neeskens had made a number of changes to the team that beat Germany, including keeper Piet Velthuizen, Roy Beerens, Peter Wisgerhof and Siem de Jong in the starting line-up and dropping Amrabat to the bench. Erik Pieters was also handed a start. The deadlock was broken after 22 minutes. Gianni Zuiverloon delivered the cross for Siem De Jong to head home; 1-0. Sebastian Giovinco scored the equaliser for Italy on the stroke of half time. Amrabat came on as a substitute at half-time, but no goals were scored in the second half as they two teams settled for a draw in a rather poor game.
Jeroen Zoet handed start for Holland U-19
Holland Under-19 were two goals down against Romania after 83 minutes, but Luuk de Jong and Luis Pedro scored late goals to snatch a 2-2 draw. Mihat Radut beat PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet twice. Luuk de Jong reduced the deficit seven minutes from time and Luis Pedro found the net in the dying seconds. PSV player Kay Velda played 45 minutes for Holland U-19.
