On Monday, Ibrahim Afellay will open a Cruyff Court in Morocco, which is named after the PSV midfielder. It is the first Cruyff Court to be opened in Morocco. When Afellay had been named Best Young Player of the 2006/07 season by a jury chaired by Johan Cruijff, he was awarded the prize to open a Cruyff Court on a location of his own.
Court in Al Hoceima
Afellay opted to open a Cruyff Court in North Morocco. His family is from the coastal town Al Hoceima and many relatives still live here. The official opening of the 'Cruyff Court Ibrahim Afellay' will take place on Monday. Afellay himself will open the Court, accompanied by the governor of Al Hoceima, Mohammed Allach (president of the Maroquistars) and Carole Thate, general manager of the Cruyff Foundation. Afellay will fly to Morocco on Sunday and return to Holland on Tuesday. A Cruyff Court is a public playground which provides a safe area to play for local children and other members of the community. The town of Eindhoven boasts four Cruyff Courts, while plans to open two more courts are well underway.
