While the PSV players most probably had the return leg against AC Milan at the back of their minds, they travelled to Twente to meet the local heroes. PSV had to come from behind twice but in the end snatched a 2-2 draw, thanks to two second half goals scored by Sibon and Vennegoor of Hesselink. The final result is actually irrelevant now that PSV have already won the Dutch title. The idea was to ease up this weekend in advance of the crucial game at the Eindhoven Philips Stadium on Wednesday, but the injuries that the forwards Jefferson Farfán and DaMarcus Beasley have picked up on Friday night against industrious FC Twente are very alarming. The Peruvian was taken off when twenty minutes were on the clock. Beasley sustained an injury in the closing stages after he had collided into his marker Majstorovic. It is hard to tell right now how serious their injuries are. Beasley in particular seemed to be in great pain.FC Twente striker Jason Culina scored the opening goal on the hour mark when he beat keeper Gomes with a well-placed effort. The home side enjoyed a short-lived lead, for some five minutes later Young-Pyo Lee delivered a fine cross. Theo Lucius’ clever dummy put Gerald Sibon in a shooting position. The striker, who had come on for Farfán, superbly found some space before clinically prodding home. But soon afterwards the hosts were on top again. A few minutes later Touma ran into the box and fired a low shot from an acute angle past Gomes; 2-1. And thus, in a crazy ten-minute spell, three goals were netted in a suddenly spectacular game. PSV cancelled the deficit for the second time fifteen minutes from final time. Lucius and Sibon started a move and eventually found Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, whose left-footed shot was touched by keeper Boschker before it slowly crossed the line. FC Twente ferociously claimed that their former striker had scored while he was in an offside position, but the referee was not interested. Referee Vink was duly hissed by the angry home crowd. In the closing stages PSV were dealt a nasty injury blow, when Beasley had to be stretchered off the pitch after a collision with defender Majstorovic. Remco van der Schaaf left the bench to replace him.PSV will play the Champions League semi final return leg against AC Milan next Wednesday night and play hosts to De Graafschap in a domestic league game on Sunday 8 May. After that game a great championship party will be celebrated in the city centre of Eindhoven.
