28-year-old Timmy Simons will show his skills as a PSV player the next four years. PSV Media can now announce that the transfer of the captain of Club Brugge and the Belgian national team has been completed. b BruggeAfter the Fin Mika Väyrynen (who made a move from sc Heerenveen) and Argentine midfielder Osmar Ferreyra (on loan from CSKA Moscow), Simons is the third player that has been signed to strengthen the PSV squad. Thee Belgian started his career as a professional football player at SK Lommel, after which he was in the service of Club Brugge for five seasons. He won many trophies, among which the Belgian title last season. He has made 223 appearances in which he scored 28 goals. He was awarded the Golden Shoe trophy (as best player of the Belgian league) in 2002.Simons was born in Diest and started playing football at the local club TH Diest. The new PSV midfield is assuming a definitive shape now that Väyrynen, Ferrerya and Simons have closed deals with the Eindhoven club.DevilsThe defending midfield player made his debut for the Red Devils in 2001, when the Belgian team clinched a 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic. Since then Simons has been capped 37 times and he was included in the side that competed at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. The Fleming from the Belgian Kempen is generally regarded as ‘an exemplary club player that does his job without ever moaning’, is the view of the Belgian football writers. Simons is going to try and find a house nearby Eindhoven, which has the additional advantage that he will not be far from his family in the Belgian county of Brabant. The versatile midfielder is married with Kathy; they have a small daughter called Laura. "Wonderful club"The love between PSV and Simons is mutual. 'I intimated to Club Brugge that I would love to complete this deal", the Belgian told PSV Media on Wednesday afternoon. "PSV are a wonderful club. Quite a few Belgians have been here before and they all lavish praise on PSV. I have made a move in the right direction. I share the ambition of the club to play at the highest European level. I think I can raise my standards."The coach obviously decides upon the starting line-up, but what would be your favourite position? "I have not exactly a position I like best. I can be played in centre midfield or at the back of the so-called diamond in midfield. The coach will decide where he needs me; I have always been a team player". It will surely be an advantage that you will live close to your family and that your daughter can go to a Dutch speaking school. "That’s true; it has helped me to make a choice."Warm relationshipPSV have always had a close relationship with football players from Belgium. Simons was preceded by the likes of Johan Devrindt, Erik Gerets (who eventually was appointed PSV head coach, Tom van Mol, darling of the crowd Luc Nilis, Marc Degryse (the current Club Brugge Football Director), Gilles de Bilde and Davy Oyen. Simons put pen to paper on a four-year deal at De Herdgang on Wednesday afternoon.
