PSV head coach Guus Hiddink, together with the players of the first team squad, have officially presented themselves to the press to start the 2005-2006 campaign. Hiddink and PSV Chairman Westerhof gave their views on the new season. ObjectiveChairman Rob Westerhof said that he had been congratulated by people all over Europe for the great successes gained in the past season and he added that the image of the club had been hugely enhanced. He briefly gave his views on the next season from the point of view of the board of directors. Guus Hiddink then officially presented the three latest signings Timmy Simons, Mika Väyrynen and Osmar Ferreyra to the Dutch press. Hiddink regretted the departure of the likes of Mark van Bommel, Johann Vogel, Ji-Sung Park, Kasper Bøgelund and Remco van der Schaaf, but he also announced that this season’s objective is to reach the UEFA Champions League knock out phase once again. "We are eager to repeat this feat."KalouThere is one striking difference with the situation last year. "We were hunters at that time, but now we are the ones to be chased, because of the successes we gained last season. And that’s obvious. We are aware of the fact that we may pick up the occasional blow, but we should respond well to that. PSV are going to stage a brave fight anyway." When Hiddink was asked if more players would be added to the squad during the summer transfer window, the head coach honestly replied: "We're always looking to strengthen the squad and quality players are obviously always welcome."One journalist asked Hiddink the give the whole story, referring to Feyenoord player Salomon Kalou who is being linked with PSV. "They don't want to negotiate. We made them an offer, but Feyenoord maintain there won’t be any negotiations. We are still open to discuss the issue with them. The question now is: where do we go from here?", wondered Hiddink, who described PSV as a team that will not be afraid to put up brave fights this season. When the press conference was over, the squad had lunch and football writers were given an opportunity to interview the players.
