Guus Hiddink had a wonderful start as coach of Australia: he guided the Socceroos to an emphatic 7-0 thrashing over the Solomon Islands 7-0 in Sydney in the first leg of the OFC final qualifying series. PlayoffsThe two sides will meet again on Tuesday afternoon in Honiara, with Australia virtually assured of meeting the fifth-placed South American team in a play-off for a place in the World Cup 2006 in Germany. Those play-off games are scheduled for November.Culina and EmertonApart from Hiddink, there was more ‘Dutch-related’ success in Sydney: FC Twente forward Jason Culina opened the scoring on twenty minutes by unleashing a great shot from 20 yards which ended in the top corner of the net for his first international goal. And former Feyenoord player Brett Emerton made it 7-0, when Francis Aruwafu, the goalkeeper of the Solomon Islands, who had produced some astonishing saves before, fumbled the ball. MiddlesbroughMarc Viduka, who had been named captain by Hiddink, scored the finest goal of the game. The Middlesbrough striker superbly delivered a spectacular overhead kick from eight yards past Aruwafu.
