In the warming-up game on the road to Istanbul, an injury-plagued PSV side eased to a 2-0 win over RBC Roosendaal, rooted to the bottom of the table, in the Eindhoven Philips Stadium on Saturday night. Timmy Simons and Jefferson Farfán scored goals on either side of the break. Simons opening goalThe game between the ruling champions and rock-bottom RBC Roosendaal was rather one-sided. PSV took the initiative and patiently tried to find an opening. RBC were unable to Roosendaal to offer anything themselves. The deadlock was soon broken, when a DaMarcus Beasley corner found Cocu, who flicked the ball on to Simons. The Belgian midfielder prodded home the opening goal from close range; 1-0. PSV then earned a string of fair chances, but the visitors held on. Arouna Koné had the greatest gilt-edged opportunity, when he had rounded keeper Volders, but defender Fortes Rodiquez somehow produced a late tackle.Jefferson FarfánThe second half continued in the same vein as the first period and again PSV scored an early goal. Michael Lamey delivered a cross and Jefferson Farfán superbly headed home, although two defenders marked him; 2-0. PSV, home and dry, wanted to offer the home crowd some more goals, but Cocu hit the post and Koné only rattled the bar from close range. Twenty minutes from final time Ibrahim Afellay left the pitch, after he had picked up an injury. He was replaced by midfielder Ismail Aissati, who celebrated his seventeenth birthday the other day and came through all the youth ranks of the PSV Youth Academy, and is now the this season’s youngest player in the Dutch top flight. IstanbulSome fifteen minutes from the end, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink was brought on, when Beasley was taken off. PSV finished the game without much further ado and thus returned to winning ways. The squad will take off for Istanbul on Monday afternoon and meet Turkish champions Fenerbahçe on Wednesday night for the second Champions League group stage game.If the injury that Afellay has sustained proves to be a serious one and if he joins the seemingly endless casualty list of injured PSV players, it would mean another devastating injury blow to the team of coach Guus Hiddink.
