Ibrahim Afellay is ruled out of Saturday night’s league game against NAC Breda. The young midfielder is troubled by a groin injury and he may not be available for the crucial UEFA Champions clash against Fenerbahçe next Tuesday night, either. DaMarcus BeasleyDuring the weekly press briefing at De Herdgang training base, PSV head coach Guus Hiddink named an eighteen-man squad for the NAC Breda encounter. Hiddink announced that Afellay has not picked up a serious injury, but he added that he is not willing to take a chance with him. "He is fighting a groin problem and should rest.”Apart from Afellay, DaMarcus Beasley, Mika Väyrynen, Michael Ball and John de Jong are also absentees. Beasley (hamstring) is on the right track to make a return from injury, but Hiddink does not want to take any risks. "He has been training intensively and we are going to see during a game of football at training on Sunday whether he has regained match sharpness. But it is always hard to predict the outcome of a muscle injury. I know we have to be extremely wary”, said Hiddink. The American sustained the injury a couple of weeks ago, when he made an appearance with Team USA. Mika VäyrynenMika Väyrynen is recovering well. “He is set to make a long-awaited return shortly”, said Hiddink, who announced that Jason Culina will most likely fill in for Afellay. Michael Ball will be given some playing time next Monday, when Young PSV take on their sc Heerenveen counterparts at 13:00.Representatives of the press inquired after the development of Johan Vonlanthen, who is on loan at NAC Breda this season. "He benefits from making many appearances. He gains experience and a clear understanding of the game. He is just 20 years of age. But I don’t mind him taking it easy tomorrow night”, concluded Hiddink with a wink.
