Guus Hiddink has announced he will not be pro-active during the January transfer window, but he added: "If we have a chance to strengthen our squad, we will certainly take it. We are invariably open to strengthen our defensive and attacking options." The PSV head coach wants to field a competitive side on the European stage the next one year and a half as well. "It looks like we lose valuable players each season. Two seasons ago we lost our entire forward line. Last summer some regular midfielders left the club and we will probably see a number of faces leave again. We may now have to replace our defense next season." Hiddink referred to defender Alex, who may part ways with PSV, as PSV depend on decisions taken by Chelsea FC. "He will not be able to join a Premiership side in England, due to a lack of international games for his country and clubs in Italy and Spain have relatively little room for non EU players."The same goes for goalkeeper Gomes, and it should be added that clubs hardly ever pay large transfer fees for goalkeepers. The contract with the 24-year old stopper was upgraded last summer, so that interested club will need a significant transfer kitty to spend. That’s why Guus Hiddink expects Gomes to be between the posts with PSV next season as well. "I would love to offer him an eight-year deal, with a clause that if a really big club shows interest, we would not stop him from leaving us." The Brazilian striker Robert is set Robert to join Real Betis Balompie, now that he has agreed an eighteen-month loan move deal to the Spanish Primera Division side.Several newspapers report that Gerald Sibon is linked with other clubs, but as far as Hiddink is concerned the striker need not leave the Eindhoven outfit. "We want to have a strong squad and that includes Sibon. And we can give our own youth players a chance to perform at the highest level." Roy Beerens is one of those youth players, but the PSV Technical Director feels Beerens has not made enough progress yet to qualify for a first team place. Arouna Koné, who is entitled to make appearances for PSV in European game after the winter break, is currently on loan in Eindhoven. "We will see the next few weeks what opportunities we have to covert his loan spell into a permanent one."
