The PSV technical staff have named a provisional nineteen-man for the domestic league game against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday afternoon. After the Saturday morning training one player will be dropped from this squad. Guus Hiddink conducted the customary Friday first press briefing at De Herdgang for the first time in 2006. The meeting lasted for over an hour and the PSV head coach extensively answered questions from reporters and football pundits that cover PSV related issues. He has a fully fit squad to pick from, apart from Arouna Koné (Africa Cup) and John de Jong (knee injury) who are not available.Hiddink announced that the Australian striker Archie Thompson, his latest signing, is on his way to Eindhoven, where he hopes to arrive next Tuesday. The loan deal that has been completed with the socceroo is strongly linked with the loan deal that Robert de Pinho de Souza, who will now most likely be given more playing time as striker up front, has closed with the Spanish side Betis. "It was a pleasant coincidence, both football wise and from an economic point of view, that Robert has found a fine new club where he can develop, and that at the same time Thompson, who needs playing time also in view of the World Cup 2006, has strengthened our squad. Robert is now in the service of Betis. They are a fine club and he will be offered an opportunity to make appearances as striker up front. Thompson is a versatile player and he can be fielded as a forward in various positions. He is very eager to be successful, works his socks off and you will always find him on the training pitch”, explained Hiddink. Many more topics were raised during the press briefing: the shirt winter break, the play-off system, the interest in assistant coach Fred Rutten and the future of the PSV technical staff, as the contracts of Rutten as well as René Eijkelkamp expire soon. Hiddink indicated that talks on an extension and job description will be held shortly. ("I feel Rutten will be PSV head coach once PSV"), the snapping up of Pepe Plá ("he needs time"), Lee Nguyen ("A clever and technically skilful player who clearly makes his mark”) and obviously next Sunday’s game. "Sparta are a special team who can pull off a stunning result, if we allow them to do so anyway."PSV from:Goalkeepers: Gomes, ZoetebierDefenders: Addo, Alex, Ball, Lamey, Ooijer, ReizigerMidfielders: Afellay, Aissati, Cocu, Culina, Lucius, Simons, VäyrynenForwards: Beasley, Farfán, Sibon, Vennegoor of Hesselink.
