When the PSV squad, technical staff and officials had entered the town hall, mayor Alexander Sakkers made a speech to honour Guus Hiddink. The PSV head coach was conferred the freedom of the town of Eindhoven. Sakkers conferred the distinction of the town of Eindhoven to Hiddink as appreciation for his great merits to PSV. During his two spells at PSV, Guus Hiddink won six titles, which makes him a record holder is. Hiddink has also won three doubles and he may even add a fourth on 7 May; he earned many other trophies as well. Sakkers obviously paid attention to winning the European Cup I in 1988.
